As I try to strike a balance between building models and painting them, I find it easier to go back and forth between the two. The logic is to feed both sides of the addiction at the same time, therefore keeping them both in check. I have been tempted to adopt the painting points system that many of my fellow bloggers use but I'm not quite there yet.
Rough Riders
I have wanted to do some rough riders on scout bikes for a while but was never quite liking the marriage of motorcycle and hunting lance; at least not the idea of the medieval style lance that is held under the shoulder. What I have come up with seems to be a satisfactory answer but I really would like some feedback. Please let me know what you think of the design. As the title says, it's a work in progress...

I like those vets, especially the autocanon team. Nice use of a jungle tree base mate.
Oh, that's what it is: a tree base!
I'm with Corbane on the vets - they're looking great - but I'm afraid I'm not overly convinced by the bike. Maybe if it were a little higher? Or not on the front fork?
Could it go where one of the bolters normally would? or would that look too weird?
Maybe if it were balanced by one on the other side? I dunno...
Doh! I suppose having attached to the front fork would present a problem. The only other thought I've come up with is abandoning the lance altogether and going with a one-shot launcher of some kind. Maybe like a Panzerfaust, only usable in CC like the lance.
i love those forgeworld bits but I just didnt want to spend the money myself. thanks for your comments on my vets by the way, i started painting the other day... probably be a month or two before they're done. your idea of balance is spot on
I dig the tree base for the autocannon.
I'm not sure about the hunting lance. Defiinitely a good use for the scout bikers, but I'd see the lance more hand-held.
I mean, the lance is single-use, so I'd go for a hand-held one and just discard it. The hand-held would get that point across.
A one shot spear gun or harpoon gun might work on the bikes instead of the lance. Same principal of the hunting lance with a modern feel (well as modern as any Imperial tech).
I'm planning on a one shot launcher for my RR bikers. Thinking of cutting the magazine off the standard IG grenade launcher and mounting it on the side of the wind screen.
Forgeworld WIPs are looking good.
